Bertha Jean Sam, age 76, Lac Courte Oreilles, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2024.

Bertha was born May 8, 1948, in Hayward, WI the daughter of Phillip and Betty (Conger) Homesky. She loved going to yard sales, playing Bingo, visiting with friends and spending time with her family. Bertha is going to be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son Bryan Sam Sr.; daughter Tammy Sam; nine grandchildren & many great grandchildren; sisters Delores (Marvin) Bowstring, Cindie Gauthier, Sheila McShane & Cheryl Homesky; sister-in-law Faith Homesky; many nephews & nieces.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Shelly Sam; granddaughter Tasheena Sam; brothers Charles Homesky & Paul Homesky; sister Mary Bilkasley & Darlene Jackson.

Tribal Funeral Rites began at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Big Drum Ceremonial Center in Lac Courte Oreilles. Chato "Ombishkebines" Gonzalez officiated. Burial was in Whitefish Cemetery. Feast and evening services began at sundown, Tuesday, July 23rd at Big Drum Ceremonial Center.

Honorary casket bearers were her grandchildren Bryan Sam Jr., Stasha Sam Quagon, John Basswood, Eric Omdahl, Duane Sam, Tara Sam, Darren Sam, Phillip Sam & Morning Star Wolfe.

Casket Bearers were Raymond Brown, Randy Cadotte, Anton Clause, Joseph Gougé, Tony Gougé & George Thayer.
