It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Christina Marie Butler "Nizhobikwe", age 69, on August 9, 2024, in Hayward, WI.

Nizhobikwe was born on July 17, 1959, in Reserve, WI the daughter of Dorothy Butler. Nizhobikwe is a member of the Midewiwin Lodge and a member of the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Ojibwe. She attended high school at Little Big Horn in Chicago, IL, and graduated in 1977. After High School Nizhobikwe worked at Combined Insurance Company of America in Chicago and moved back home in 1980. She then worked for the Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Ojibwe, later for the Oneida Nation and the Clerk of Courts in Green Bay, WI. Nizhobikwe then attended Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in Green Bay and earned her Associates of Arts degree in Accounting. She lived in Green Bay for 15 years and then later moved to the Twin Cities area to retire. Nizhobikwe enjoyed sewing all kinds of pow-wow regalia as well as creating manydifferent kinds of crafts to sell at local pow-wows. While she was with us, she laughed as much as she could surrounded by her friends and family.

She is survived by her two children, Sarah Rachel Butler "Giinumbus" and David Michael Butler "Bezhigoogabo". Other survivors include her sister Regina Quaderer (Terry Quaderer), uncle James Butler, granddaughter Hannah DeCoteau Orie "Nigaaniibinesiikwe" (Eric Mitchell), granddaughter Grace Miskwaabineshiinh Butler "Biidaasinookwe", granddaughter Hazel Mimikwaew Butler, grandson Liam James Armstrong, and grandson Ryan Anthony Poupart; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by mother Dorothy Butler Wade (Simon Sigora), grandmother Rachel Wade (Max Butler), aunt Martina Gouge (Tiny Gouge), aunt Eunice Quagon, uncle George Butler, uncle Russell Butler, and Coobie Sarah Baker Wade (George Wade).

Midewiwin Traditional Rites were held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 12,2024 at Pineview Funeral Home, Hayward, WI. Wagosh Anton Treuer officiated during the wake on Sunday, August 11th that started at dusk. Burial was in Round Lake Cemetery.

Honorary casket bearers were Liam James Armstrong, Ryan Anthony Poupart, Kali Crone, Natasha Miller, Rheanna Miller, Rick Miller, Jay Quaderer, Kaliana Quaderer, Makayla Quaderer, Brandon Starr & Ramon Starr.

Casket Bearers were Jared Outlaw, Mark Quaderer, Matthew Quaderer, Rick Thompson, Ricky Thompson & Nation Wright.
