Donald Joseph Gokey Sr., age 71, of Lac Courte Oreilles, passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2023.

Donald "Coconut" Gokey was born September 6, 1951, in Hayward, the son of Donald Smith and Georgina Gokey. He was raised in Reserve, WI by his grandparents, Ben and Katie Gokey. Don was married to Ruby Robertson for 10 years and they had four children, Donald, Autumn, Christopher and Charlie. He went to St. Francis during elementary school and went to Hayward High School. Coconut played softball for the LCO team for many years traveling all over Wisconsin. He worked for LCO Development for many years as a truck driver and took great pride in representing Lac Courte Oreilles. Coconut held the record for most delivery trips in one day. He enjoyed retirement by telling jokes, teasing his grandchildren and spending time with his children. His kindness, generosity, and unique sense of humor will be remembered by many.

He is survived by his children Donald (Kelly Nayquonabe) Gokey, Autumn Gokey, Christopher Gokey & Charlie (Farynn Taylor) Gokey; 12 grandchildren, two great grandchildren; siblings Larry (Donna) Schmidt, Colby, WI, Debra (Bill) Kara, Plover, WI, Marcia Schmidt, Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Glori (Sherman) Calmes, Chippewa Falls, WI, Sherry (Tim) Lau, Green Bay, WI.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; and grandparents.

Midewiwin Funeral Rites were held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 7, 2023, at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward. Chato "Ombishkebines" Gonzalez officiated. Burial was in Round Lake Cemetery. Visitation began at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, April 6 ^th , at the funeral home.

Honorary casket bearers were Fred Jack Sr., Louie Nickence, Doug Potack, Art Schmock Sr., Bill Taylor & George Taylor.

Casket bearers were Charles Belille, Donald Bildeau, Dave Dennis, Roger Diamond, Justin Schlender & Derek Wilson.
