Doris L. Gougé, age 91, formerly of Skunawong, died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Benedictine Living Center of Spooner.

Doris Lucille was born June 13, 1921, in the village of Eddy Creek near Couderay, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Corbine) Isham. They lived in Park Falls, moved to Reserve, then to Skunawong, Doris was the youngest of 10 children. In February 1950 Doris was united in marriage to Girard "Toy" Louis Gougé in Carlton, MN. They resided in the same two bedroom house which was left to her by her father. Doris worked as a house cleaner at local resorts and as an assembler at OmniLab in New Post. She began working with LCO Head Start in 1965, first as a cook then a teacher and also Interim Director, retiring in 1995. After retirement she continued working for LCO School as an elder mentor and for LCO Casino as a hostess. In 2004 Doris was named the LCO Anishinabekwe (Woman of the Year) at the Honor the Earth Pow Wow for recognition of her life long dedication to her Lac Courte Oreilles tribe.

She is survived by her sons Jerry (JoAnn Hium) Gougé of Hudson, WI, Alan Gougé, James (Kim Milam) Gougé Sr., and Randall Gougé Sr. all of LCO; daughters-in-law Carolyn Gougé of Red Cliff and Lorraine Gougé of Hayward; 22 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, one great great grandchild; many nephews and nieces.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents; husband Toy on July 29, 1992; daughters Mary Beth Thunder, Cecile Ann Gougé, Lois Rae Gougé; son Willard Roland Gougé Sr.; brothers William, Cyrus, Benjamin, Edgar, Silas, Oliver and George; sisters Virginia Isham and Florence Schmock.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 16 at St. Francis Solanus Indian Mission in Reserve. Father Gregory Hopefl will officiate with music provided by Rebecca Iverson. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery next to her husband. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 15th at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward.

Honorary casket bearers will be Anthony, Brad, Brianna, Craig, Cherisha, Elizabeth, Gerard, Joseph, Paige and Tonya Gouge, Daniel, Eric, Kristen, Nicole, Robert and Stacey Thunder.

Casket bearers will be Brian Gougé, James Gougé Jr., Kyle Gougé, Randall Gougé Jr. Willard Gougé Jr., and Michael Thunder.
