Edward M. Kleinhammer, age 94 of Hayward, died peacefully Saturday, November 30, 2013 at his home.
Edward Marck Kleinhammer was born August 31, 1919 in Chicago, IL the son of Edward and Anne (Marck) Kleinhammer. Ed grew up in Chicago and graduated from Harrison High School. After high school he played for the All American Youth Orchestra as a trombonist in 1940. Ed served in the United States Air Force from June 5, 1942 – August 18, 1945. Ed was a member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra as a trombonist from 1940-1985 when he retired. In 1997 he relocated to Hayward and built his home on Winndego Lake. Ed was united in marriage to Dessie (Magnuson) Kleinhammer on March 14, 1999 at Hayward Wesleyan Church. He was very active at the Hayward Wesleyan Church including the Senior Saints group where he met his wife Dessie. Ed considered the church his family. He continued his passion for music by sharing and encouraging youth in their talents until his death.
He is survived by his wife Dessie; sister Lorraine Kleinhammer of Arlington Heights, IL; sister-in-law Alice Kleinhammer of Mt. Prospect, IL; brother-in-law Bud (Hazel) Hukill Aurora, MO; step-daughters Jennifer Lindsey of Boulder, CO, Susan (Jim) Hillman of Downers Grove, IL; step-sons Terry (Julie) Magnuson of Chippewa Falls, John Magnuson of Madison; 6 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; nieces & nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, brother Elroy, first wife Dorothy and second wife Norma; step-son Tim Magnuson.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Hayward Wesleyan Church on Friday, December 6 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark O. Wilson officiating and music provided by Linda Gerich. Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
