George "Pow" LaRonge II, age 78, of the Whitefish Community, died Friday, July 5, 2013 in Cudahy, Wisconsin.
George Edward LaRonge II was born in Signor on August 2, 1934, the son of George and Suzanne (Crockadock) LaRonge. He attended St. Francis School and finished high school in Chicago. "Pow" attended the University of Michigan receiving his associate degree in Drug and Alcohol Counseling. He was a Community Organizer at the former Chicago American Indian Center (AIC) as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor and worked with the First Food Line at the AIC. In his pastime "Pow" enjoyed being at his trailer in the woods visiting with friends and listening to music. In his younger years he enjoyed playing guitar and singing.
He is survived by his children George LaRonge III, Sandra LaRonge, Brenda LaRonge, Kimberly LaRonge, Peter LaRonge and Suzanne LaRonge; 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild.
"Pow" was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Raymond White, George White, Robert White, Cecilia White and Rita LaRonge (Sharlow).
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 12 at St. Francis Solanus Indian Mission in Reserve with Father Gregory Hopefl officiating and music provided by Sister Felissa Zander. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Thursday, July 11 at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward.
Honorary casket bearers will be Donald DeMarr and Eric M. William IV.
Casket bearers will be Adam Bigjohn, Willis Bigjohn, Geroge LaRonge IV, Thomas LaRonge, Jason Northern and Jerry Mike.
