Obituary

Glenwood "Joe" D. McClaine, age 92 of Winter, WI, died Tuesday, September 6, 2011, at Rusk County Memorial Hospital & Nursing Home in Ladysmith, WI.

Glenwood DuWayne was born July 31, 1919 in Couderay, WI, the son of Wilfred "Dick" and Selma (Raish) McClaine. He attended Draper Grade School and High School. Joe attended National Tech Center in Chicago, IL, Joe then moved to Washington D.C. where he was a Link Trainer Instructor and Fixed Aerial Gunnery. In 1942 Joe enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II. He served in the South Pacific – 3rd Fleet when Japan surrendered and the peace treaty was signed on the U.S. Missouri. After spending three years in the Navy Joe returned to Winter where he owned and operated a tavern in Winter, worked for the Winter Fair Store, owned and operated Chaurettes Store and later worked for the Winter Co-op. Joe was a member of many organization including Masonic Lodge, Shriners, Boy Scouts of America, Chamber of Commerce, American Legion, VFW and AmVets. He was also past chairman of the Democratic Party in Sawyer County and was a charter member of the Winter Fire Department and Ambulance.

He is survived by his wife Helen; step-daughter Anna Suzan; grandson Jesse (Amy) Suzan; great grandsons Ross and Trevor Suzan; brother Buddy; sisters Fay Pettit and Virginia Enhelder; many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Mae; brother Marcus.

The Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 9 at Zion Lutheran Church in Winter. Pastor Terri Blomberg will officiate with music provided by Sue Peterson. Burial will be in Winter Cemetery with military honors provided by WACEK – Slattery American Legion Post #303, LCO AMVETS post #1998 and State of Wisconsin Military Honors Team. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Friday, prior to the services at the church.
