Gretchen Marie Nickence

Gretchen M. Nickence, age 62 of the Twin Cities, died Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Hennepin Co Medical Center.

Gretchen was born September 17, 1963, in Hayward, WI, the daughter of George O’Shogay and Cecelia Nickence. Gretchen grew up in Springbrook and attended Spooner High School. Upon graduating, Gretchen lived in Hayward for a little while and moved to Minnesota where it captured her for the remainder of her life. Moving from Duluth to multiple areas around the Twin Cities you could find her basking in the sun just talking to people along the way.

She is survived by her daughter; Lenora Fayant, brother; Adrian Nickence, Waverin Nickence-Ramsey, grandchildren; Evan, Aliana & Jeremias as well as many nephews, nieces and cousins.

Gretchen was preceded in death by her parents, John Mitchell Nickence, Bryon Nickence, Stanley Nickence, sister; Yvonne Nickence and Nephew R James Nickence.

Tribal Rites Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 29 New Post Community Center in New Post. Gary “Ne-aan-da-wed” Quaderer will officiate. Burial will be in New Post Cemetery. Visitation will be held beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 29 at the New Post Community Center.

Honorary casket bearers will be Eric Peterson, Julie Aasen, Lynn Aasen.

Casket Bearers will be Evan Fayant, Jeremias Salazar-Fayant, Mike DeCora, Mike DeCora Jr., Raymond DeMarr, Tom Tainter.
