James C. Poppe, age 82, of Hayward, WI died Sunday, February 23, 2020 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, MN.

James Clifford Poppe was born December 12,1937 in Hayward, WI, the son of Clifford and Juanita "Babe" (Sabin) Poppe. He went to school in Seeley and Hayward served in the National Guard for a period of time. After the Guards Jim moved around to a few different places and was known as a jack of all trades.  There wasn't just one thing that Jim was good at or didn't do.  He worked with his dad, uncle and other family members working on anything from outboard motors to Ski-Dos and construction to moving houses.  Building and tinkering was just the beginning of all the things that he has done.  Jim worked for McDonalds for years and was also the under Sheriff for Sawyer County for many years.  He has been a butcher, worked in surveillance, school bus driver, factory work, and spent many years volunteering for Fishing Has No Boundaries.  Jim lived the simple life and was always willing to play a joke on someone.

He is survived by his wife Priscilla; sons Larry (Kathy) Poppe, James (Janell) Poppe, Josh Poppe; daughters Marilyn (Tim) Young, Carol Hamblin, Pam Miller; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers Fritz Poppe; sisters Donna (Ralph) Govert, Pat (Dean) Ledbeter, Peggy Carlson; special brother-in-law George Greve; and several nephews and nieces.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents Clifford & Juanita; sister-in-law Kris Poppe; and great niece Tanya Poppe.

A Memorial Gathering was held from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m., Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Hayward Veterans Community Center.
