Jay T. Bennett, age 45, of Hayward, died Monday, July 4, 2011 at his home.

Jay Thomas was born February 9, 1966 in Hayward, WI the son of Merlyn Bennett and Kathryn (Martin) King. He grew up and attended school in Beloit, WI. Jay lived and worked in several different areas around the country. He worked as a miner in Utah, a commercial fisherman in Alaska, worked on a shrimp boat in Alabama, but he was always a carpenter. Jay met a contractor, Augie Anderson, who took him under his wing and mentored him about building construction from the ground up. Jay was a union carpenter for 30 years and was currently working as a supervisor for LCO Development. He was a Wolf Den leader for Cub Scouts of America, Wisconsin Chippewa Valley Council, Pack 94 from LCO. Jay was a devoted father who dearly loved his children and his family.

Jay is survived by his mother Kathryn and Pa Jim King of Hayward; daughter Beatrix Louise Bennett; son Nodin Bennett; brothers Merlyn (Larisa Thomas) Bennett, Andy Bennett both of Hayward, Jeremiah (Athena) King of Milwaukee, Jimmy King of FL; sisters Jackie (Barry LaRonge) Bennett, Danielle (Edwin) Carley both of Hayward, Brandi (Howard) Foster of IN; several nephews & nieces.

He was preceded in death by his father Merlyn; brother Louis Bennett; maternal & paternal grandparents.

Tribal Funeral Rites will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward. Jerry Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Signor Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2011.

Honorary casket bearers will be Eguene Ahart, Andy Bennett, Jeremiah King, Jimmy King, Alex Lasieur and Chuck Martin.

Casket Bearers will be Merlyn Bennett, Larry Butler, Edwin Carley, Mark Isham, Barry LaRonge and Donny Quaderer.
