Judith Elaine Miller, age 71, of Lac Courte Oreilles, WI, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2025.
Elaine was born March 22, 1954, in Hayward, WI, the daughter of Clifford and Marie (White) Miller. She attended Hayward High School and Mount Senario College. Elaine worked at the LCO K-12 school for thirty-four years, where she worked many roles; in the middle school office, in the culture and language department, and coordinating the LCO School Powwow and the LCO Veterans Powwow. Alongside her many years at the school, she also worked at the Women's Shelter, for the tribal court, for enrollment, and served on the Honor the Earth Committee. Elaine can be remembered by greeting everyone at the gates and selling buttons with her sister Dorothy. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and her family. Elaine's house was always open to friends and family, as well as her kitchen. She welcomed everyone with open arms and a warm heart. Elaine will be remembered for her jokes, sweet laugh, and her loveable teasing. To all her nieces and nephews, she was everyone's #1 Auntie Mom. Elaine was an active member in LCO's Big Drum community and lived by the traditional teachings. She was second degree Midewiin.
She is survived by her daughter Utina (Thom) Malnourie; son Ogemah (Julianne) Taylor; granddaughter Eliana Malnourie; grandsons Ogemah Jr. and Cameron Taylor; sisters Lorraine Ledbeter, Dorothy Miller, Barbara (Frank Sr.) Lopez, Cindy (Mike) Miller-Flechsig; brothers Jim Miller & Rick (Marilyn) Miller; and many nieces and nephews.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Marie (White) Miller; sisters Sally McClurg, Donna Davis & Kathy Miller; sister-in-law Kathy Morrow-Miller; brother Tom Miller; grandmother Ida White; aunts Susie White, Evelyn Butler & Jessie Coon; and uncles Tom, George & Bennie White.
Tribal Funeral Rites began at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Big Drum Ceremonial Center in Lac Courte Oreilles. Chato "Ombishkebines" Gonzalez officiated. Burial was in Historyland Cemetery. Visitation began at sundown, Saturday, September 6th at Big Drum Ceremonial Center.
Honorary casket bearers were Rusty Barber, Erv Cross, Mike Flechsig, Julie Kuhl, James Lopez, Frank "Teats" Lopez Sr., Reanna Miller, Rick St. Germaine, Donald "Duck" White & Lewis White.
Casket Bearers were Derek Barber, Ryan Cooper, Donovan Martin, Nick Miller, Odawa White & Javier Yanez.
