Julia A. LaFontaine died in Hayward, Wisconsin on Wednesday, August 31, 2011. Mrs. LaFontaine, 92, was born in Sand Lake on July 12, 1919, to Bert and Marie (Ford) Hoag.
Bubby, as she was known to relatives and friends, grew up in Topeka, Kansas and graduated from Topeka High School. After high school, she worked for several companies, including Hallmark Cards, Zercher Photo, Luce Press Clipping Bureau, where she was a supervisor, and Derus Media Services, a newspaper matte/media company where she both wrote and sold material for clients.
Luce Press transferred her to Los Angeles, where she headed the sales office for 4-1/2 years. A new job with Derus Media brought her to New York City in 1967 where she headed their sales office before being transferred to the main office in Chicago, then returned to New York and back to Chicago, where she lived for several years before retiring to the LCO Reservation at the urging of her cousins, Georginea Vash and Florence Ford. For several years, she and Georginea ran a breakfast program for elders and she was active in the Elders organization.
Some of her favorite pastimes were reading, especially English murder mysteries, and board games, particularly Scrabble. Children were drawn to her and loved to talk with her. She was fond of animals, especially cats. In addition to her live ones, she had a large collection of cat figurines.
Mrs. LaFontaine was married twice. Both marriages ended in divorce. She is survived by a daughter, Lisa M. Ledlow, of New York City, as well as many cousins, including Dorothy (Duane) Sorenson, Rev. Dr. Charles Ford, Rebecca (Bryan) Hutchings and Georginea Vash of Springfield, Missouri; Dale (Angela) Sorenson of Clarksville, Tennessee, Donny Sorenson of St. Ignace, Michigan and Darren (Tony) Sorenson of Rochester, Michigan.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward. Dr. Charles Ford will officiate. Burial will be in Whitefish Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Honorary casket bearer will be Allen Vinikour.
Casket bearers will be Jeff Crone, Bryan Hutchings, Eddie Boy Martin, Joe Morey, Steve Quaderer, Dale Sorenson and Duane Sorenson.
