Julie Beth Wilson, 71, of LCO, died Monday, January 19, 2015 at Miller Dwan in Duluth, MN.

Julie Beth was born on September 2, 1943 in Hayward, WI, the daughter of Angus Wilson and Saxon St. Germaine. She was active in sports, receiving female athlete of the year at Hayward High School in 1959-1960. Julie was a skilled singer, performing in regional and state contests, both as a soloist and with groups like "The Coppertones" in the late 1950's. She attended college at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, UW-LaCrosse, UW-Superior, graduating in 1977 from UW-Eau Claire with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Arts. Julie choreographed theatre works and once helped conduct a play at LCO about Winiboozho stories. She received law enforcement certification training in the Brigham City Intermountain Indian Police Academy in the early 1980's. Julie was active in the American Indian Movement, going to the Wounded Knee Takeover in 1973. During Julie's lifetime her career consisted of cosmetology, classroom teaching, student counseling, police officer in Lewiston, ID and Hayward and worked with Chemawa Indian School in Oregon. She also worked in corrections, crisis shelter, and ICW service. Julie was a foster parent to numerous children throughout her life. In recent retirement years, she enjoyed doing beautician work and spending time with her grandchildren, and was a major Packer fan.

She is survived by her daughters Lee Rae Redheart, Chuxie Barrows, Juliette Morrow; grandchildren Elias Rice, Harlie Rice, Zoe Boswell, Owen Boswell, Sara Redheart, Jesse Redheart III, Joseph Trepania, Julian Trepania; sisters Dawn Wilson, Cynthia Tudjen; brothers Rick St. Germaine, Ernie St. Germaine, Angus "Brenner" Wilson Jr., Gene Wilson; many nephews, nieces and many relatives.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents and brother Ike Wilson.

Tribal Funeral Rites was held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2015 at Big Drum Ceremonial Center in Lac Courte Oreilles with Lee Staples officiating. Burial was at the St. Germaine Cabin Family Cemetery. Visitation began at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, January 22, 2015 at Big Drum Ceremonial Center.

Casket bearers are Dusty Morrow, Tyler Morrow, Elias Rice, Frankie St. Germaine, Mark St. Germaine and Ricky St. Germaine.
