Obituary

Karen F. Johnson, age 64, of Cable, WI, passed away on March 1, 2023, after a four-year battle with cancer.

Karen was born April 18, 1958, Larry and Joyce Johnson of New Berlin, Wisconsin. She grew up in New Berlin and while growing up her family vacationed in Cable, WI.  Karen had a connection to Namakagon because she had several aunts and uncles that resided and worked in the area.  It was her and her parent's plan to move one day to Cable and in 1991 she did.  In no time, Karen became well known in both the Cable and Clam Lake Communities; she was loved and respected by all.  When she moved here, she worked as a security guard for the Clam Lake ELF Station.  When the station closed, she accepted a job working for Mary Griggs Burke, at Forest Lodge.  Over the years she worked several jobs which included: bartending and waitressing at Metros, Hilltop and Pla-Mor in Cable.  She also worked at Debs Y-Go By, now Ransom's Place, and Elk Horn in Clam Lake.  Her last employment was with the Clam Lake Junction where she worked as a cashier.

Karen was committed to all she did, and she did everything with honesty and integrity; she had very strong values and shared them with those who knew her.  Some of her greatest joys came from sharing time with friends, helping others, taking care of her mother and father, caring for animals, bear hunting, and fishing.  She was also a strong advocate and supporter of St. Jude's and the humane society.

Karen was never one to sit still.  When one called or stopped by to see her you would typically find her outside somewhere.  She enjoyed walking her dogs, often twice a day, doing yard work, gardening, fishing, helping neighbors, or caring for the animals of others.  Chances are if she was not home, she was either working or out bear hunting; she loved the comradery of the hunting group and she loved caring for the dogs.

Everyone that befriended Karen became family to her.   She was always the first one to reach out and help anyone and to be there to support them through any challenge or adventure.   She is greatly missed by her friends and family.

Karen is survived by her aunt, Judy Van Camp, of Hayward, Wisconsin and her cousins Shirley Sadler and Michael Lueck.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father.
