Lawrence R. Butler Sr., age 58, a Lac Courte Oreilles native, died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis, MN.

Lawrence Ray was born September 14, 1953 in Hayward, WI, the son of Tony B. and Elizabeth (Billyboy) Butler and was raised with siblings at Gibaakwa'iganing, LCO. He attended school in Couderay, Winter and Hayward. Larry was a carpenter, employed by LCO Development along with the late Jim Bradley of Stone Lake from 1979 to present. He began a life with Carrie Cosby on July 15, 1979 and together they raised their three children in LCO. Larry was a die hard Packer fan who enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and loved racing, "bajaing", playing guitar and his riding lawn mower. He was a loving Dad and "Papa" to his kids and grandkids. Weekends were always full with outings and family cookouts.

He is survived by Carrie; two sons Lawrence Jr. (Anna), Tom; daughter Sheila (George) Butler all of LCO; eleven grandchildren with three step grandchildren; brothers Anthony (Rose), Gary (Phyllis) both of LCO; sisters Mary Ann (Gary) of Glenview IL, Dorothy Gouge of Minneapolis, Donna LaRonge, Sharon (Stanley) Quagon both of LCO, Ruth LaRonge of Eau Claire; 17 nieces & nephews, numerous cousins.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brothers James & Leonard, one grandson, brother-in-law Alfred Gouge, numerous aunts & uncles.

Tribal Funeral Rites will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 6 at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward. Dennis White will officiate. Burial will be on the Butler Family Property. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 5 at the funeral home.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Stuart Belille, Donald Butler, Eugene Butler, Steven Cosby, Rex Cosby, Gary Golz, Alfred Gouge Jr., Brandon Gouge, John Hall Sr., Keller Paap, Ryan Potack, Stanley Quagon, Art Schmock, Dennis Taylor, George Taylor Jr. and James Wilson Jr.

Casket Bearers will be David Butler Sr., Gary Butler Jr., Larry Butler III, Tony Butler Jr., Barry LaRonge, Mark LaRonge, Stanley Quagon Jr. and Steve Thayer.
