Obituary

Lloyd "Jake" D, 81, of Winter, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at his daughter's home in Elmwood, IL.

Lloyd "Jake" David was born on November 6, 1931 the son of John and Rose (Copple) Williams. He grew up in Chicago and Winter, graduating from Winter High School in 1950. Jake enlisted in the US Air Force on November 7, 1950, spending time in Texas and Germany, and served until August 16, 1954. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Germany Occupation Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. After the Service he attended the University of Wisconsin - Superior and received his teaching degree in 1958. Jake was united in marriage to Eunice Larson on September 1, 1956 in Winter. They resided for some time in Superior while he finished his schooling and then Bloomer where he began his teaching career. During the summers of 1962 - 1964, Jake also worked as a U.S. Forest Service ranger at Devil's Tower National Monument, Wyoming. In 1966, the family moved back to the homestead in Winter and, shortly thereafter, Jake took a teaching job in the Winter School District. He served there as a teacher, and for several years in the mid 70's as a guidance counselor, until retiring in 1990.

He is survived by his two sons, Jeffrey (Anna-Marie) of Houston, TX, and Patrick (Janet) of Huntsville, AL; two daughters, Pamela (Dennis) of Elmwood, IL, and Kathleen (Allen) of Beecher, IL; 11 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren; brothers George (Marlene) Williams and Doug (Arlene) Williams; sister Dorothy (Kelly) Ruid; several nephews and nieces.

Jake was preceded in death by his wife Eunice; parents John and Rose; brothers Verle, Roger and John.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 9 at Zion Lutheran Church in Winter. Pastor Tonee Martin of the Winter Evangelical Free Church and Rev. Ray Caldwell will officiate. Music will be provided by Val Caldwell and Sandy Stengel. Burial will be in Winter Cemetery with military honors accorded by the WACEK-Slattery American Legion Post #303 and State of Wisconsin Military Honors Team. Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., on Saturday at the church.

Casket Bearers will be Allen Boldt, Devin Boldt, Gary Kielcheski, Dennis Putney, Thomas Putney and Ronald Thrasher.

Memorials may be directed to the Jake and Eunice Williams Scholarship Fund.
