Obituary

Louis E. Gougé Sr., age 92, of LCO, died Thursday, November 10, 2016 at Waters Edge Care Center in Hayward.

Louis Edwin Gougé Sr. was born September 10, 1924 in Couderay, WI, one of six sons and three daughters of George and Harriet (Isham) Gougé. Louis grew up in Reserve, and was taken to Pipestone boarding school when he was a young child. He escaped from Pipestone and moved back to Reserve when he was in seventh grade. Louis worked on several local farms until he enlisted into the US Navy in 1943. serving aboard the USS Yorktown as an Aviation Ordinance man during World War II. After completing his time in the service he separated from the Navy and moved back home to Wisconsin where he met Beverly and they were united in marriage in 1952. Louis was a bus driver and maintenance man for St. Francis School until 1966. He decided to go to machinist school in Winter, WI. Upon graduation Louis found a job as a machinist at Stressau Labs in Spooner, WI. When the lab downsized he went to work at General Telephone as a lineman and worked there until being laid off in the mid 1970's. In the mid-seventies Louis was one of the first people to work for the newly formed LCO school system located in New Post, Wisconsin. He worked many different job positions there including; cook, bus driver, custodian, maintenance director, transportation director, and night watchman. Louis was a hunter safety instructor and he taught many students how to hunt and fish. He stayed with the LCO school system until he retired in 1992. Louis had a love for nature and he enjoyed hunting and fishing more than anything. Louis loved to gamble, enjoyed playing the slot machines and traveling to other casinos to try his luck. He had a very deep love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Louis was an unselfish man and he would always go out of his way to help anyone.

He is survived by his son Louis "Tiger" (Marcy) Gougé Jr.; grandchildren Heather (Jason LaRush) Gougé, Stephanie (Michael Isham) Gougé and Christopher Gougé; great-grandsons Quintin Miller, Darian and Ninde Goodsky; sisters Delores and Hazel; many nephews and nieces.

Louis was preceded by his parents; wife Beverly; brothers Richard, Jerry, Joe, Bill, Elmer, and Arthur; sisters Heloise and Elizabeth.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 15, 2016 St. Francis Solanus Indian Mission in Reserve with Father Gregory Hopefl officiating. Music was provided by Sister Felissa Zander. Burial was in St. Francis Cemetery with military honors accorded by LCO AmVets Post #1998. Visitation was held begining at 5:00 p.m., Monday, November 14th at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward.

Honorary Casket Bearers were Ed Kinkle, Charles Lynk, Mike Scharp, Richie Scharp and Rick St. Germaine.

Casket bearers were Tim DeBrot, Doug Fleming, Bill Gougé, Mike Isham, Jason LaRush, and Bernie Scharp.
