Martin A. Gordon Jr., age 31 of LCO, died Tuesday, November 22, 2011, in his home.
Martin Albert was born on September 3, 1980 in Duluth, MN, the son of Martin Sr. and Ellen "Susie" Gordon (nee' Zamora). He attended LCO Headstart and Hayward Community Schools, graduating Hayward High School, class of 1999. Throughout high school, Martin worked food service at Dairy Queen and Trailways, while still maintaining a B Honor Roll and achieving high academic honors. He also took part in Native American Youth Conferences, FHA/HERO, and various musical activities including State Solo & Ensemble and High Honors Band. After high school he was employed at LCO Ojibwe Community College Financial Aid Office and LCO Casino Fast Funds. Martin was taking online classes toward a degree in business.
He is survived by his parents Martin Sr. and Susie; sisters Maryellen C. Gordon, JayColette E. Herald-Gordon; grandmother Maryellen B. Baker; maternal aunties Eunice J. Zamora, Denise D. (Ernest) King, Karen C. DeMain; maternal cousins Shane "Biggs" Zamora, Arnold John Corbine Jr., Adam Corbine, Ernest King Jr., Edward Bowker, Courtney Bowman, Honyere DeMain; 2nd cousins Colleen Dion Burna Lauren Corbine, Cheyenne Elizabeth Corbine and Kaylee Marie Corbine; life long best friend Jason Morrow.
Martin was preceded in death by brother Charles S. Zamora; maternal grandfather Arnulfo Zamora, paternal grandparents; cousins Colleen Deionne Burna Loren Corbine.
Mide' wi win Rites were held beginning with a feast at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, November 25, at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward. Edward Benton Benai Sr. officiated. Burial was in Historyland Cemetery in Hayward. Visitation began at11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 24 at the funeral home.
Honorary casket bearers were gaiashkibos, Gary Quaderer Sr., Rick Rooney, Rick St. Germaine, Sara Tainter and Amanda Thayer.
Casket bearers were Edward Bowker, Michael Davis, William Fowler, Jason Morrow, Patrick "Biddy" Wade and Shane "Biggs" Zamora.
Pineview Funeral Service is assisting Martin's family with the arrangements.
