Michael Lee Tyler Cooper

Michael Lee Tyler Cooper, beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend passed away at his home on Monday August 31, 2026, at the age of 32 in Hayward, Wisconsin, leaving behind a life remembered for his love of family animals, science, technology and history.

Michael was born on January 1st, 1994, in Hayward, Wisconsin, the son of Jon Cooper and Rebecca Thyssen. Michael graduated from Hayward High School in 2012. Shortly after graduation, he answered the call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served a tour in Afghanistan, dedicating himself to his fellow soldiers and his country. During his military service from 2012 to 2016, Michael was honored with several awards and recognitions, including the Army Commendation Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, and Air Assault Badge. His service was a meaningful part of his life, and he carried great pride in having served his country.

Michael had a deep love for animals and especially cherished his beloved dog, Peekaboo, who was his faithful companion and remained by his side. He was also fascinated by science and technology, enjoying opportunities to learn how things worked and explore new ideas. His passion for history led him to appreciate the people, events, and discoveries that shaped the world. These interests reflected his curious mind and his desire to understand the world around him.

Though Michaels life was far too short, the memories he made and the lives he touched will remain with those who loved him. His service, his love for animals, his curiosity about science and technology, his unique place within his family will not be forgotten.

Michael is survived by his mother: Rebecca Thyssen; father: Jon Cooper; sister: Jessica Thyssen; his nephew, Hunter Amans; his beloved dog: Peekaboo; and many cousins, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Michael is preceded in death by his aunt; Nancy Cooper and his paternal and maternal grandparents.

Memorial Services will be held at New Post Senior Center, at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 2026, in New Post, Wisconsin.  Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 25 prior to service at New Post Senior Center in New Post, WI.

Honorary Casket Bearers will be Jericho Thyssen, Jaymes Strain, Tatum Thyssen, Vincent Thomas, and Daniel Cross.

Rest easy, Michael. Thank you for your service. You will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
