Mildred G. "Millie" Chisser-Barthel, 89, passed peacefully Friday, August 7, 2015 at Water's Edge Nursing Home in Hayward.
Millie was born on October 4, 1925, at Ingall's Memorial Hospital in Harvey, Illinois. Her parents were Louis and Catherine Chisser of Homewood, IL.
One of Millie's first jobs was a waitress at Tom's Sweet Shop restaurant in Homewood, IL where she was also the first female cab driver. She had an incredible mathematical mind from working in her brother Harry's small grocery store back when you had to use your mind to add and know how to make change. When she lived in Country Club Hills, IL, she worked at Garofalo's Grocery where she was "1962 Checker of the Year"!! When she moved to Hayward in 1968 she worked as a cashier at Tremblay's Candy Store, Windmill Square Gift Shop and later as the Bookkeeper for Barthel Electric and at Rosalie's Craft Store.
Millie was an avid Chicago Cub's Fan, Minnestoa Vikings and Black Hawk's fan. She was excited to watch them win the Stanley Cup in 2015! She looked forward to their games and hoped for a World Series or Super Bowl win. She was a good golfer and bowler and had many pins and trophies and lot's of fun! She really enjoyed bird hunting in the fall, she was a great shot! Millie was a wonderful cook and loved sharing her chocolate chip cookies with all!
She also enjoyed going to the casino to visit with friends, enjoy a meal and maybe win a jackpot or two. She was fun loving and known and loved by many. She will be remembered and missed by all.
She is survived by her brother Harry Chisser, seven children, Pat Richardson, Chesterton, IN.; Bill Glaum (Martha), Hayward; Dan Glaum (Kim), Stevens Point, WI.; Cathy Riegler, Ramsay, MI.; Ron Glaum (Terri), Glenwood, IL.; Kurt Barthel (Debby), Hayward; Mike Barthel (Danielle) Hayward., 23 Grandchildren, Chad and Josh Richardson, Joe Glaum, Jeffery, Jody, Jennie and Abby Glaum, Eric Riegler, Rebecca Riegler-Lynch, Pete Riegler, Jennifer Roberson , Jason, Matthew and Jeffrey Glaum, Sarah and Becca Barthel, Hannah Furlow, Jessica Howe, Nicole, Garrett, Jesse, Crystal and Reana Barthel. As well as 24 Great Grandchildren. Millie is also survived by nieces and nephews Shirley Boyle, Joan Berard, Scott Simmons. Nancy Perkins, Robert (Skip) Chisser, Cookie Johnson; and Tim Chisser.
She was preceded in death by her brother Louis, sisters Helen Tosi, Irene Sherwood and Rosie Simmons, Nieces Dolly Legnon and Louise Greco and Nephews Louis (Gigi) Tosi and Cary Chisser.
There will be a casual memorial gathering from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM on Saturday August 15th at the Hayward Wesleyan Church. Family will be present to share in the celebration of Millie's life.
