R. James Arthur Nickence, age 35, of Lac Courte Oreilles, WI passed away Thursday, December 18, 2025.

James was born June 9, 1990, in Hayward, WI, the son of Adrian Nickence and Lelia Lynk. He enjoyed beading and was very artistic.

He is survived by his father Adrian; brother Martin Johnson; sisters Dawn Johnson and Paula (Eric) Peterson; and many nephews and nieces.

James was preceded in death by his mother Lelia; and uncle Bryon Nickence.

Tribal Funeral Rites will begin at 10:00 a.m., Sunday, December 21, 2025, at New Post Community Center. Gary Quaderer Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in New Post Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, December 20th at New Post Community Center.

Honorary casket bearers will be Waabishkii Binayshee, Robert Coon, Tristan Duffy, James Isham, Neil Rose & Adolfo Thayer-Vega.

Casket bearers will be Mike DeCora Sr., Mike DeCora Jr., Tim Gauthier, Jay Hollen, Robert Kirk, Eric Peterson & Patrick Tainter.
