In Loving Memory of Robert “Bo” Hammond
Robert Hammond, age 64, passed away on September 2, 2026. He was born on June 29, 1962, to Mary Ann and Robert Hammond.
Robert was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was married to his wife, Cindy Kirk, for 17 years. Family was very important to Robert, and he cherished the time he spent surrounded by the people he loved. He enjoyed laughter, good times, and making memories with family and friends.. Robert was always happy.
Robert was a fellow believer in Jesus Christ our Lord. Robert attended Mobridge Indian Bible College in Mobridge, South Dakota and gained an ordained ministerial status during his tenure there. Robert loved the Lord and was much loved by his family as well as Gods family of fellow believers. He often found his way back into our circle of fellowship and church. Along with the rest of us he struggled with faith and his flesh, but he always found his way back home spiritually in a personal relationship with Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
In his younger years Robert was an avid runner and took part in the Waabanong Run in 1998. During this historic journey, tribal members and allies carried the sacred treaty staff on foot from northern Wisconsin and Minnesota all the way to Washington, D.C. The Waabanong Run represented the protection of treaty rights and tribal sovereignty. Robert’s participation in this journey was a meaningful part of his life and reflected his commitment to his community, his people, and the importance of protecting the rights and traditions of future generations.
Robert also had a passion for riding his bicycle and could often be found riding wherever he needed to go. He enjoyed the freedom of being on his bike and never let distance or a difficult task stand in his way. His determination and adventurous spirit were just part of what made Robert who he was.
.
Robert was also a proud and devoted Green Bay Packers fan and had a deep love for music. He also had a special love for animals and found great joy in caring for them. Among his favorites were his cat, Tammy, his turkey, Tango, and his flock of chickens. His animals were a special and cherished part of his life.
Robert will be remembered for his love of family, his kind heart, his determination, and the many memories he created with those around him. He leaves behind countless cherished memories that will continue to bring comfort to those who knew and loved him.
Robert is survived by his wife of 17 years, Cindy Kirk; his father, Robert Hammond (Shyroon); his sisters, Jean Thayer (Steve), Sharon Hammond, Dianah Ton (Erik), Stacie Hammond, Shalisa Kelley (Michael), and Alicia Medina (Ernesto); his brother, Leif Hammond (Beth); his stepchildren; Julie Kirk (Bubba), Robert Kirk (Heather), Jerry Kirk, Farrah Herrera (Jeff); his special friend, Larry Taylor; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ann Hammond; his nephews, Chas Thayer and David Hammond-Van Lyssel; and his niece, Nicole Van Lyssel..
