Samuel J. Jockey age 92 of New Post, WI, died on Saturday, January, 4, 2014 at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital
Samuel Joseph Jockey was born December 30, 1921 in Hayward, WI to George and Giisigokiwe Jockey. He enlisted in the United States Army receiving several decorations including Distinguished Unit Badge, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon and Service European African Middle Eastern Service Medal. Sam was captured by German soldiers and was a prisoner of war for 143 days following the Battle of the Bulge, earning him the Purple Heart with Cluster. After the military he worked as AODA counselor for some time.
Sam is survived by his son Laramie; long time loving friend Phyllis DeBrot; brother-in-law George (Jacky) Bluesky; nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son Kenneth "Skinny" Jockey; brother Clyde Jockey.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 8 at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in New Post. Father Gregory Hopefl will officiate with music provided by Sister Felissa Zander. Burial will be in New Post Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7 at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward.
