Walter Joseph Thayer Jr., age 75, of Lac Courte Oreilles, died Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis, MN.

Joe was born July 20, 1946, in Hayward, the son of Walter and Marie (Gokey) Thayer Sr. He was raised in New Post. Joe served in the US Army and was recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter. After his service he returned to LCO and raised his family. Joe was an avid outdoorsman and made sure his children knew how to hunt and fish. He also made time to play bingo.

He is survived by his sons Joseph S. Thayer Sr., Robert Thayer & Scott Friend; daughters Darla Thayer, Heather Grover & Yvette Thayer; many grandchildren & great grandchildren; nephews & nieces; his significant other Ernestine "Tina" Jack and many friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; sons Dustin & Preston Thayer; sisters Carol Belille, Louise Froemel & Mary Jane Thayer.

The Funeral Service was held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 8, 2022, at Pineview Funeral Service in Hayward. Father Gregory Hopefl officiated. Burial was New Post Cemetery with military honors accorded by LCO AMVETS Post #1998. A luncheon followed at New Post Community Center. Visitation was held from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Honorary casket bearers were Charles Belille, Micky Belille, Donald "Ducky" Potack, Gordon Thayer, Steve Thayer & Susie Thayer.
